In honor of Black History Month and as a literacy building tool, Building Better Men (B2M) held a “Letters to Your African American Hero” essay contest for young males, providing them opportunity to recognize their favorite deceased or living leader. These 500-word essays were then judged by the B2M team and awarded $100 for First Place, $75 for Second Place and $50 for Third Place. The cash awards were made available through B2M supporting sponsor SAY Detroit Foundation, a Mitch Albom charity. Winners were recognized in two age groups, 8 – 13 and 14-17.
